Concrete Patio Resurfacing Transforms Historic Paoli Venue

At Historic Waynesborough, SUNDEK of Pennsylvania resurfaced the tented event space, creating a stunning patio for guests to dance, dine, and mingle.

Many weddings take place in this tented space at Historic Waynesborough in Paoli, PA, where SUNDEK of Pennsylvania recently resurfaced the event floor using Classic Texture.

Historic Waynesborough, a house museum in Paoli, Pennsylvania, is a Philadelphia-area landmark. In addition to being a tourist destination, it’s also a popular wedding venue with a gorgeous heated and air-conditioned tent that can accommodate up to 260 guests at each event. After many years of use, the surface of the tented area had been patched and repatched in several spots. Ready to resurface the 3,160 square-foot space, the caretakers of the historic property reached out to Mike Hughes at SUNDEK of Pennsylvania.

When he visited the site, Mike examined the existing surface to find that lumpy patch material along several joints, and areas that weren’t level. It wasn’t anything his crews couldn’t handle though, so Mike proposed a solution: scarify the surface and then install a coating of Classic Texture.

Classic Texture is SUNDEK’s knockdown finish coat that is known for its many good qualities, many of them critical in a location such as the Historic Waynesborough wedding venue which sees thousands of guests a year. First, Classic Texture is stain resistant, which is necessary in a location such as this where it’s not uncommon for guests to accidentally spill food and/or drinks. Additionally, this coating is slip resistant. In this area of the country where there is a lot of precipitation throughout the year, it’s important to have a surface that doesn’t become dangerously slippery when it’s a little wet—especially considering that many guests are wearing shoes that may not provide lots of traction.

SUNDEK of Pennsylvania used Classic Texture in Mission Tan as the base color, then installed aggregate effects in Pewter Gray and Franciscan Tan.

Another quality of Classic Texture that appeals to venues such as this is that it creates an easy-to-clean surface. Since the coating is non-porous, it doesn’t soak up stains, and can be cleaned with a hose with a high-pressure nozzle or a pressure washer.

The stakeholders at Waynesborough were happy with the proposed plan to use Classic Texture. Mike and his team provided them with several color samples, and they ultimately chose Mission Tan for the base color, and aggregate effects in two colors: Pewter Gray and Franciscan Tan.

The existing surface at the venue had lots of concrete patches and uneven spots that SUNDEK needed to resolve before they were able to install the new coating.

When the crews set out to scarify the surface, there was a lot of buildup to grind out and remove. They also needed to use leveling materials in other spots to ensure that the surface was completely flat. Along with installing the Classic Texture and applying Aggregate Effects, crews installed custom scorelines which serve an aesthetic purpose and also prevent future cracking.

The SUNDEK of Pennsylvania team completely transformed the surface, creating a beautiful and safe surface for couples and their guests to dance, dine, and enjoy each other’s company for decades to come.
