At a home in Newton Square, PA, SUNDEK of Pennsylvania resurfaced a pool deck to make it cooler on hot summer days.
Homeowners in Newton Square, Pennsylvania, were looking to upgrade their existing stamped concrete pool deck because they wanted something more functional. In addition to being difficult to keep clean, the stamped concrete surface was uncomfortable to walk on during hot summer days. So, the homeowners reached out to SUNDEK of Pennsylvania for help, sharing their vision: a beautiful surface that would be easy to clean and comfortable for bare feet, even on the hottest days. Along with their pool deck, they wanted the pathway leading up to the deck resurfaced so everything would match.
Contact us for a quoteSUNDEK proposed a solution for the 1,358 square feet of concrete: resurface the existing deck and pathway with Classic Texture, one of SUNDEK’s most popular coatings. Known in the industry as “cool decking” or “knockdown texture,” Classic Texture is a product that remains temperate, even when the temperatures outside are scorching.

Additionally, since it’s a non-porous acrylic coat, it’s easy to keep clean and is durable, lasting for decades when sealed and cared for properly. This quality makes it ideal for pool decks and even waterparks, as things like oils from sunscreens and spilled food and drinks are easy to spray off and won’t penetrate the concrete. On top of all its benefits, its textured surface makes it slip-resistant, bringing peace of mind.
The homeowners loved the idea of a Classic Texture deck and opted for Bone White as their color selection. Light colors are a great choice for keeping the temperature of their concrete down, as darker colors tend to absorb more heat.
To properly prepare the surface for the new coating of Classic Texture, SUNDEK of Pennsylvania first needed to scarify the existing concrete. Crews chipped away at the layer of stamped concrete until it was level and ready to accept the new coating.
For this project, the client also wanted Custom Scorelines on the deck and walkway. This technique takes advantage of the natural movement of concrete, working with it rather than against it, so that future cracking becomes less likely. To achieve this technique, SUNDEK places scorelines over any existing cracks or joints and then completes the pattern with other hand-drawn scorelines. Then they seal the lines with a flexible material that prevents damage from moisture.
The homeowners were happy with the result: an eye-catching deck and walkway that is comfortable to walk on and will last for many years to come.
